This exquisite batik wooden set is truly an eye catcher. Carved to form first, each item is then batiked by talented artisans in Yogyakarta, Java using a traditional tool called a "canting" to apply wax directly on the wood, creating intricate patterns based on ancient Javanese motifs. The individual pieces are layered with wax and dye and finally boiled quickly to remove the wax from the surface, revealing a detailed and mesmerizing design. To complete each, they are vanished with a food safe seal.
